Love it

It's factory second, and it's fine. I use it on a class 1 river, and I love how I can switch positions quickly. Will be taking it on class 2 this season.

Butterknife SUP & Kayak Paddle - Yellow

I have been tempted by this paddle for a while just wasn't sure if it would be comfortable to use. I should NOT have waited this long! Its comfortable to hold the T-grip, or hold with two hands like a kayak paddle. Super helpful for navigating trickier rapids on my knees, and also helpful when I am trying to float and take photos as it gives me greater control of the board. Highly recommend it!

Great paddle

it's a cool paddle. I like the fact that you do not hang too change from a single to a double paddle. you have both at your finger tips. however one must double check fittings and hardware before use as I lost a screw without knowing during use

New model

I’m excited for my new butterknife. I have one of the original ones but always feared not having a back up. I absolutely love having sup and kayak option, my favorite paddle for everything.

Love this paddle

I love how easy it is to switch between sitting / paddling kayak style and standing / traditional SUP style. Headwinds are no longer a big deal. Notes: The paddles "feather" easily in strong headwinds. The handle has an open part that I clip to a Bungie cord tied to the back of my board. I can then toss the paddle in the water where it acts like a sea anchor when I'm relaxing or swimming. I added a pair of paddle blade gaskets to reduce the water that drips on my hands. These are standard on kayak paddles.

Just what I needed for longer trips

This says it all -- Hala’s innovative paddle provides two blades that allow you to paddle while sitting on your paddleboard in a kneeling position. Or you can choose to pop up and utilize the handle behind the blade and you have an elite SUP paddle. Perfect for longer lake trips and more

Love the double blades!

Please keep making this! One of the beautiful things I find in SUPing is the versatility of the craft and this is the paddle to match that versatility! Everyone wants to know where i got it and when I let them try it out they love it just as much as I do. This is my favorite paddle for those learning to SUP and for long whitewater trips. My only downside is I wish the construction was a little more solid as I have broken 2 of them! Will keep using the butterknife as long as you guys make them.

Gamechanging when kneeling or sitting

This paddle works pretty much as advertised, and seems very well built. As a SUP paddle, it feels like any other paddle - takes a bit to get used to that big blue blade waving in front of your hand, but really, that's just a minor distraction. The big difference is when you have to sit or kneel because of wind or whatever. For me at least, the double blades are a huge improvement over trying to choke up on a regular single bladed SUP paddle.

Everyone wants to know where I got it!

Every time I have brought this paddle out people ask me where to get one. I absolutely love it. It is slightly heavier than a paddle without the second handle, but I barely notice the difference. I use it on river paddles and flat water as well. I expect this will be my default paddle for years to come.

Best adventure paddle

I own several SUP boards and I always purchase them with the Hala Butterknife Paddle. Yes, they are a little bit heavier than regular SUP paddles but I prefer the added weight to the knowledge that if the wind changes on me, the current became too strong, the waves entering the ocean are a bit rough or the rapid looks too difficult for me, I can always drop to my knees and paddle the board like a kayak. I often take one or two people on my board, using them to transport people from boat to the shore. The ability to paddle on a seated position is often necessary in those conditions. And quite often we take our boards touring in desolated areas where self rescue is the only option. This paddle makes us feel extra safe and prepared. Plus, the additional weight (when compared with other traditional carbon paddles, serve me for training. This is a three piece paddle and feathering the blades IS possible.

Versatility in a Streamlined Design

The Butterknife is a great solution to effective paddling while standing or sitting. Ideal for long days where you might want to sit or kneel for a bit, it makes it easy to continue paddling on both sides of your board without having to flip the paddle around. Also great if you have two people on a board the one in front can add to the paddling power by sitting and using the Butterknife while not being in the way of the other paddle.

I love this paddle it

I love this paddle it works so well. takes a few minutes to get used to but when you do it is a great paddle. Now i go out when the wind my get up and not worry so get to spend more time on the water. The only thing i would change is to have the handle molded on to the paddle face instead of riveted. My concern is that since all of my SUP time is in salt water the rivets will corroded and fail. The first Butterknife I ever saw was this way as a prototype full carbon fiber.

I bought the Butterknife paddle

I bought the Butterknife paddle days before leaving for the Grand Canyon. This is the PERFECT paddle to allow me to get through the high volume water without having to worry about swimming the rapids! Brilliant design for comfort and performance. I bought two other paddles along thinking I may want to switch them out. I used the Butterknife paddle for the total 24 days on was on the river! I also had several inquires from other boaters in the GC regarding my awesome paddle. I gave excellent reviews.

Just get one. That’s it.

Just get one. That’s it. This thing is pretty awesome, it floats, super lightweight, breaks down and packs small and feel solid. Reminds me of high end carbon road bike stuff.

This is a pretty sweet

This is a pretty sweet paddle. I love the ability to paddle like a kayak into a headwind or when one arm is getting worked from a sidewind. It is also nice to be able to drop down to paddle when a rapid gets a little too sketchy for me to stand. I wouldn't to take anything else out onto the water if I have a choice.

Great paddle, works as well

Great paddle, works as well or better than y'all suggest. The hardware and build quality are excellent, allowing me to break down, adjust length for single or double blade, and offset the blades totally on the fly. It took about 40 stokes to get used to the handle/blade setup on switches. I have tried other convertibles before- this design wins hands down. B-man Austin, TX

This paddle is one of

This paddle is one of a kind and amazing. It has helped me get out of a couple sticky situation quickly. Being able to get on your knees and kayak paddle against head winds on long stretches of slow water is ideal. It also breaks down to a size that can fit in your Hala bag.
